Ceramic sand for shot blasting
Ceramic sand is a kind of spherical sand made of calcined bauxite by fusing process and blowing. Spherical sand is blasting media for shot peening. It has the advantages of no damage to the workpiece and no scratches. Ceramic sand is usually for casting molding sand and raw sand. It works not so often as a sandblasting and abrasive material.
The spherical particles of Ceramic sand are very similar to glass beads, sintered bauxite beads, and Zirconia beads in terms of use method and mechanism. Those blasting media work excellently as surface beautification and stress relief. The Mohs hardness of Ceramic sand is 6.5-7.0, slightly higher than that of glass beads. The hardness is close to that of zirconium ceramic beads and is much cheaper. Therefore, ceramic sand is suitable for cleaning stainless steel, steel castings, and other workpieces. It should be noted that the iron content of ceramic sand is higher than that of glass beads and zirconium ceramic beads, and it is not applicable to applications requiring high surface color.
